Bishop John Hooper was the Anglican Bishop of Gloucester and Worcester. He became the principal proponent of Swiss Calvinism in England and served as chaplain first to Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset and then to John Dudley, Earl of Warwick. After the death of Edward VI and the succession of Mary Tudor he suffered martyrdom in 1555.
